Food order apps look simple but the experience is far from efficient. I use UberEats three to five times weekly. First, I browse through menus and promotions for no longer than ten minutes. When completed, going through the payment process can give me a heart attack. Sometimes I ask, “Did I just pay for this amount?” The larger an order, the higher my service fee.
If an order is under $15, a “small order” fee is added to my bill. But wait, there’s more—waiting for my order to arrive is worse than standing in line at the airport security gate. The average wait time is 45 minutes. When the food arrives, it is either missing an item or not as warm as I would hope for.

All these steps are just to have a few bites before my next meeting. My order will end up in the fridge for tomorrow’s lunch. In reality, how many of us reheat meals from yesterday’s lunch? Some would reheat out of convenience to save money. For others, the smell of yesterday’s leftovers is unappetizing. Also, waiting in line to use the dirty microwave in the office is unpleasant. Tossing out leftovers is the only option. This dilemma is all too familiar.
What’s worst, my waistline is getting bigger and my bank account is shrinking which should be the other way around. My struggle is real. There has to be a better way.

App food services like GrubHub, UberEats, and DoorDash have been around since 2004. They are accounted for over 80 percent of food delivery revenue. It is a $16.6 Billion1 growing market with huge opportunities. As the COVID-phase continues, delivering food has become an essential part of daily life. Food delivery services have plenty of challenges. The two most complaints are cold food and late delivery. Restaurants ignore instructions leading to the inconsistency of food. The unnecessary fees are difficult to swallow and the carelessness in handling food is a concern. These challenges are disconcerting because food delivery platforms cater to convenience. It’s time to disrupt the food ordering industry.
